Hats for Hope 2006 was a great success - as $30,000 was donated to Making Strides Against Breast Cancer! Over 400 people shopped the 250 hats and 80 non-hat packages available at Bellarmine University on Thursday, April 13, 2006. Thanks to all the attendees, donors, and volunteers who made 2006 the best event yet!

"Exacta Pink" from Rebecca Nally was a fun black wider brimmed hat, with a pink ostrich feather wrapped around it, accented with pink tulle, black polka-dot ribbon and pink daisies. Small white flowers and wispy black feathers were added around the daisies and in the pink ostrich feathers for added detail. These details are signature of what most Expressions by Rebecca hats entail. The three words that best describe her hats are: feathers, fun and flamboyant. "Outback Nat" was a large Panama hat with 4" wide white moire band & bow with large white & dark pink lilies with sage green accents. Designed by C.K. Nobles and autographed by Natalie Franzman from "Outback Jack".

"Lynne's Love"; Large white straw hat with pink braided satin band & large lighter pink magnolia blossom with other darker pink blooms; designed & donated by C.K. Nobles LLC Millinery & autographed by Lynne Cheney, USA Vice President Dick Cheney's wife.

These are two (2) of the fifteen (15) hats that KaKyCo donated to Hats for Hope this year. Each hat is different and very beautiful. This is the second year that Naya at KaKyCo has generously supported our cause. More information about KaKyCo can be found at www.kakyco.com.

The white and black hat has a large black satin bow and black rhinestone studded feather with a flip brim.

The sheer purple hat has a matching band and bow.

"Surrender" donated by local designer, Angie Schultz, of "Attitudes by Angie". A very large white straw hat with white eyelash fur and black and white embellishments. Angie is very talented and generous, and supports Hats for Hope each year. She proves that any woman can wear a hat. Angie says, "Everyone can wear a hat, it's all in the attitude you have, you just have to find the style that feels right to you". Angie was featured in USA Today's June 5, 2005 issue. "My Fair Lady": Custom couture hat designed and sewn by Jill Henning; inspired by Aubrey Hepburn's scene in the Royal Ascot race in "My Fair Lady"; sewn with black twisted tubular Swiss horse-hair braid, embellished with 8-inch wide black tone on tone striped vintage French satin ribbon with black 8-inch horse-hair loops; shaped and dyed Ostrich feathers of black, cream and white colors with two hand curled French silk buff shaded open roses.

C.K. Nobles, LLC is a local millinery design company owned by Sheila Nobles & Kevin Swansey who have been the designers for The KY Derby Museum for the last four years and will be highlighted there again this year. The KY Derby Princesses wore their designs last year and were featured on The Today Show. The local agency for Juliana Collezione selected them to design for their Louisville clients, and they will be highlighted at the 2006 Phillies Fashion Show in Louisville. "Lilies at the Fillies" is a natural straw hat with up turned brim with beautiful pink lilies and pink & green ribbon band and accents.

"Breakfast at Tiffany's" anyone? This elegant black layered hat is a classic with its white feather accents and beautiful pin accent.

Debby Rollins, a UFPC team member, designed and decorated this hat with beaded lime green and periwinkle glass beads, in a Chantilly lace pattern, with a sheer white band and bow. The glass seed beads are wired and attached by hand.

Nanz & Kraft (NanzKraft.com) is a loyal supporter of Hats for Hope. This chocolate colored straw hat with lime band & bow with pink flowers was designed by Brenda Timperman. Both the upper & under brims are hand beaded. This particular Nanz & Kraft is located at 141 Breckenridge Lane; Louisville, KY; 502-897-6551.

"Lady Emma", Large chocolate brown parasol hat with pink and blue flowers, designed and donated by Polly Singer Earley who is a loyal supporter of Hats for Hope. She owns All You Need Is Love, Hats & Veils in Lexington, KY. Her web Site is www.hatsandveils.net.

Lloyd's Florist has supported Hats for Hope all three years with outstanding hat designs.

This hat was decorated by Julie Jones, a UFPC employee and an awesome volunteer for Hats for Hope Procurement Committee. It has a red, green, and white checked band with dried red pod flower and red and white ribbon trailers.

Beige straw hat with lace design dome with rust color edging on dome and brim; under-brim has rust cross-hatch design on a double dome that fits snugly to the head; designed and donated by Ruth Mills of Ruth Mills, Milliner in Ottawa, ON, Canada.

It is ironic that, as Ruth was preparing to send this hat, she received the unwelcome diagnosis of breast cancer, an early stage which encourages her that she will have a full and successful recovery.
