The 2007 Hats for Hope auction was held inside a beautifully decorated Frazier Hall at Bellarmine University in Louisville, KY on Thursday, April 5. Over 400 patrons enjoyed shopping the incredible variety of Derby hats and merchandise packages. Many brand new, designer hats were sold, along with many new and gently worn hats and other valuable items. Below are some of the items and donors that helped the 2007 auction be the most successful one yet with a net of $39,000. |

Lloyd's Florist has been a loyal donor to Hats for Hope since 2004, designing and donating hats each year. This year, the American Institute for Floral Design, Southern Conference, was hosted by Lloyd's at the Louisville Downtown Marriott on March 9-10. A Derby theme was used, and the attendees toured the KY Derby Museum at Churchill Downs on Friday and Glassworks on Saturday. Attendees were asked to design and submit a Derby hat for a competition where three hats would be selected for the People's Choice Awards. There were thirty-six (36) hats submitted and put on display in the Marriott on Saturday. The awards were presented on Saturday evening at dinner and all the hats were then donated to Hats for Hope for auction. Michael Gaddie at Lloyd's Florist was then presented the very first Hats for Hope Hero Award. The most voted for hats were as follows: Robert DeBellis - This hat is most suitable as a wall or door decoration. It is a beautiful pink hat of paper mache and decoupage; everything including the flowers and stems are constructed from racing forms. Outstanding! Patricia Limber - Large hat with red embroidered fabric with huge red roses tipped in black; black netting with beautiful black hat pin. Screams Derby! Tim Lawing - Black Betmar (NY) hat with copper band, gold hyacinths with copper centers & pheasant & ostrich feathers. Breathtaking! Lloyd's Florist (www.lloydsflorist.net) is also providing table arrangements for the actual event on April 5th. Thanks Michael! |
